Welcome To My Practice!

Dental implants are one of the best tooth replacement options available. They're a safe, conservative, durable, and cost effective choice, and most closely resemble the function of your natural teeth. We work exclusively with top-tier Periodontists, Oral Surgeons, and Master Ceramists to provide the highest quality outcomes. I'm pleased to offer dental implants in San Francisco, and look forward to working with you!

What Are Dental Implants?

Illustration of Dental Implants

Dental Implants are one of the best treatment options available for replacing a missing tooth (or teeth). They consist of 3 parts:

  1. A Screw: The implant screw is surgically placed in the jawbone, and acts as an artificial tooth root. It bonds with the bone material and forms a strong base for the rest of the implant.
  2. An Abutment: The implant abutment is a small connector that securely attaches the crown to the implant screw.
  3. A Crown: The crown is the visible portion of the implant, and is custom made to match your natural teeth and fit your mouth.

Compared with other proceedures for missing teeth (Bridges and Dentures), dental implants have several big advantages:

  • Effectiveness: An implant provides the same function as a natural tooth, while dentures only give about 25% chewing capacity.
  • Tooth Preservation: Unlike implants, dental bridges impact the surrounding teeth and may require removing healthy tooth structure.
  • Durability: Dental implants are a permanent treatment. Bridges and dentures need to be replaced every 10 years or so.

Who Should Consider Dental Implants?

Modern dental implants have been around for more than 30 years, and they're a great option for most patients in San Francisco.

According to the American Academy of Implant Dentistry over 3,000,000 people in the U.S. have dental implants, and that number is growing by over 500,000 per year.

Well qualified candidates for dental implants will be in good overall health (it's a surgical procedure), and have healthy bone structure for the implant screw.

Implant dentistry can be a great option whether you're missing a single tooth, multiple teeth in a row (implant bridge), or full upper or lower mouth (all-on-4).

What happens during dental implant treatment?

1. Evaluate

The first step in dental implant treatment is an evaluation. During the free consultation in our San Francisco, CA office, we'll assess the situation to make sure implants are a good fit for your unique oral health circumstances.

2. Phase 1

We'll provide a referral to our preferred San Francisco Periodontist or Oral Surgeon partner, based on your needs. They'll perform surgery to place the implant screw, and we'll provide a temporary tooth for aesthetics while you heal.

3. Phase 2

Roughly 4 months later (after you're healed up), we'll do impressions and our master ceramist will fabricate the implant crown. On your next visit, we will place the crown and make sure it's functional and beautiful!

Dental Implant F.A.Q.

During your free dental implant consultation in our San Francisco, CA office, we'll go over the procedure in detail and make sure you have all the information you need to make a decision. Here are a few of the most frequently asked questions as a starting point for our face to face conversation.

There are 3 different implant treatment options, depending on how many and which teeth need to be replaced.

  • Single Implant: Used to treat a single tooth, or multiple non-adjacent teeth.
  • Implant Bridge: Used to treat 3 or more adjacent teeth (a bridge attaches to 2 implants on either end).
  • All-On-4: Used to treat the entire upper or lower jaw (4 implants with a full denture permanently attached).

Compared to other tooth replacement treatment options, implants have a number of benefits:

  • Effectiveness: An implant provides the same function as a natural tooth, while dentures only give about 25% chewing capacity.
  • Nutrition: Loss of chewing effectiveness leads to poorer nutrition. Implants allow you to continue enjoying all of the nutritious foods you're used to.
  • Convience: Implants are permanently attached, so there's no need to remove them for cleaning as with dentures.
  • Tooth Preservation: Unlike implants, dental bridges can impact the surrounding teeth and may require removing tooth surface.
  • Durability: Dental implants are a permanent treatment. Bridges and dentures need to be replaced every 10 years or so.
  • Cost: Dental implants are more expensive up-front, but when you factor in replacement costs for bridges and dentures every 10 or so years they are (quite a bit) more cost effective.

Dental implants require the same regular maintenance as your natural teeth. Namely, regular flossing, brushing, and dental checkups.

Dental implants are meant to be lifetime restorations.

Fees can vary widely based on the unique needs of the patient, but the cost is relatively higher than alternatives like bridges or dentures. Payments are spaced out over the course of the treatment, which lasts multiple months.
